Greyson Chance Back to the Basics

Greyson Chance paid a visit to an old friend today, someone (or in this case, something) that he owes many thanks to.  For the first time in a long time Greyson pulled up a bench to the Chance family piano which graciously sits in their living room in Edmond, Oklahoma.

We all know that Greyson’s “Paparazzi” performance video which he posted to YouTube about 3 months ago sky-rocketed him to fame practically overnight.  But what we sometimes forget his how much work led up to this performance.

Greyson has said himself many times that he’s been playing the piano and singing his entire life.  This was evident in a video we posted several months back of a young Greyson singing Proud to be an American.  Greyson’s mother has also said that for as long as she can remember, her son was singing and playing, all with no formal vocal training.  When we see one video and call Greyson “lucky”, it’s important to remember that many years and countless hours of practice prefaced his breakthrough “Paparazzi” performance.

During Greyson’s second visit to The Ellen DeGeneres show (before the big announcement that he was signed to ElevenEleven records), Ellen told Greyson that Yamaha was giving him a brand new piano to practice on.  While we’re sure that Greyson has been putting his new piano to good use, it’s apparent that nothing could ever replace his trusty old friend, the piano that he’s been practicing on for years.

Today Greyson sent out a message letting us know that he was writing some new music on his “OLD” piano.  Greyson recalls his love for his black and white friend, “Man do I love this thing”.  Greyson and his family have done a superb job of keeping him grounded through all the fame.  It’s awesome to see that Greyson has not forgotten his roots and knows where to turn to when he needs a bit of inspiration and one-on-one time with an old friend.
