Greyson Chance is no ordinary thirteen-year-old, this we know; but he’s no ordinary artist either. As we are approaching the one year anniversary of his discovery, we think it’s important for perhaps some of his newer fans to really hear what this young man is all about.
At just twelve-years-old Greyson was picked up and signed by comedian, television talk show host and now record label owner, Ellen DeGeneres. For most twelve-year-olds it would be easy for the fame to overcome them, but not Greyson. Talent aside, an ordinary kid placed into the shoes which Greyson now fills would not be able to even lift a foot; Greyson has run a marathon in them.
Going from a small town kid to one of the hottest new faces in music today his talent and passion for music is like nothing we’ve ever seen before. How many kids do you know could tell you what exactly a vinyl record player is, Greyson can; in fact he listens to the Temptations every morning on one! Greyson has a sophistication about himself that cannot be compared to any other young artist in the music industry today.
Since the discovery of Justin Bieber, young talents everywhere have been utilizing YouTube as a platform to get their music out in hopes of being the next big thing. Some have succeeded but many have not. When we look at those that have we rarely see something new, something that hasn’t been done before, that was until now. The funny thing about Greyson is, he didn’t even intend to use YouTube to promote himself! But now with his new found fame it would be easy for Greyson to follow the path many others ahead of him have taken, instead he’s chosen the path less traveled. Showing his courage to live out his dream authentically, Greyson is doing it his way!
In a recent interview with The Boston Globe, Greyson said that his management team understands what he’s trying to do with pop music. On his way to rehearsal for his tour with Cody Simpson, Greyson mentioned how everything he was wearing was chosen by him and it was an outfit he wanted to wear, not something that he was told to. “Everything I do creatively comes through me and then I go to the management team and we work it out” Greyson said. It’s sometimes hard for even an adult artist to have the aptitude to take the bull by the horns and control their future; we can only imagine how difficult it must be for Greyson as he pursues his dream in an adult driven industry.
Greyson is certainly in it for the long haul and there is no doubt that he has the talent, intelligence and capability to take his music career well beyond his childhood and “wow” audiences everywhere for generations!

Greyson is awesome! I have watched Ellen for many years now, Big fan of her. So excited she is finding talent out there, and that she found Greyson. Could not agree more – he has an amazing personality, and what I like about him is that he knows exactly what kind of music he wants to do, and his fanbase, unlike Justin who is just pandering to everyone and trying to please everyone.
