Greyson Chance Talks ‘Hold On ‘Til The Night’ with Examiner

Greyson Chance sat down with Marian Tuin, a pop music journalist with Examiner.com to discuss his upcoming debut album Hold On ‘Til The Night which is scheduled to be released on August 2nd.

Marian described Greyson as “articulate” and “gracious” following her interview with him in the studio as he was finishing up the album.

Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

You can read the complete interview here.

Marian: Let’s start by talking about the album, is it more a collection of songs or written around a theme?

Greyson: “You know it’s just basically, from when I’ve been writing it to when I’ve been cutting the record, it’s gone through a year of my life. You really hear the different emotions that you’re going to feel during a year.  You hear heartbreak in some, you hear anger, you hear sadness, you hear happiness in some, and you hear I’m in love in some songs. The general theme of this record that I was very inspired by was that I was going through heartbreak at the time when I was writing it. And so I think the general theme of this is a heartbroken record.”

Marian: How did you come up with the title for it?

Greyson: Hold on ‘Til the Night is actually one of the songs from the record, so it’s a title song. When I was in the studio writing this record, I was very, something wasn’t right that day. I was very sad, I was heartbroken, I was insecure about how this song was going to happen, I was missing my friends. So I went into the studio and I told myself that day I need to write a record that is going to get me back up on my feet because as an artist and as my duty to my fans I need to be able to gain courage. I wrote that record from gaining courage and when I was writing it I could just picture myself and my fans, because the chorus is: (sings) ‘Hold onto the night get out of your own way’. So it’s like saying don’t be afraid, gain courage, take a risk. And when I was writing the record I was imaging me and my fans just running towards this light, this endless light and we were just running and we were gaining courage.”

Marian: Have you written all the songs and music on the album?

Greyson: “I haven’t fully written the whole album. There’s a lot of collaborations, a lot of co-writes and them some of the records, very few, I didn’t write. Most of the record is written by me but everything from the mixing, the production, the vocal riffs, everything creatively I’m very involved in.”

Marian: So did you know the production side of things, or is that something you learned working on this album?

Greyson: “I’ve gotten into production a lot by working on this record. I’m actually in the studio right now talking to you. We’re just finishing up everything today, so it’s a big day. I’ve learned a lot about production and I’ve been in my seat back a lot with the producers. And what I think is so great about this record is that everybody I have worked with has really respected me.”

Marian: What have been or are currently are some of the biggest challenges you face?

Greyson: “I think its being in this business and constantly traveling, it tends to get very lonely. Usually when people ask me this question they always ask, ‘It probably has to be how the press has this huge spectacle on you.’ And you know it’s not really about that for me. I feel as if, if my name is in headlines than I’m obviously doing something right. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to go cause a huge scandal because I was raised right by my parents and I would never do that. People are always thinking that it’s because of the press and that’s the hardest thing and it’s really just that sometimes at the end of the day it gets lonely being on the road and being an artist.”

Greyson Chance Talks Album & Summer Tour with Hollywood Dame

Greyson Chance recently sat down with Hollywood Dame for an exclusive interview about his upcoming summer tour and debut album Hold On ‘Til The Night.

Our friends at Hollywood Dame interviewed Greyson almost a year ago when he was just getting started.  We must say that Hollywood Dame is one of our favorites because we won the Greyson Chance Autograph Poster giveaway from them last year!

Here are some exerts from the most recent interview.  Click here for the complete interview.

Your debut album ‘Hold On ‘Til The Night’ will be released in August. What was the process like recording it?

Recording the album has taken a year, so I’ve been through so many emotions. There have been days where I’ve been angry, some days where I’ve been sad, some days I’ve been happy. It’s been an amazing process and so much fun.

Obviously, you must be excited about your album coming out, but what other things are you feeling?

I’m just anxious. I’ve wanted August 2nd to come so badly. Especially when releasing new record, there’s a lot of nervousness coming through. I’m so excited for everyone to hear it. I think it’s going to do pretty well. It’s a great record, if I do say so myself.

What’s your favorite song to perform off your upcoming album and why?

Right now I’d have to say ‘Unfriend You.’ It’s so much fun to perform. When I’m singing it, I like to tell everyone to ‘jump’ and it becomes this big huge thing.

Have you written or created a song that didn’t make the album cut that you wish would have?

Oh yeah, there are lots of those actually. When you’re going through and picking the songs, there are some that don’t work and some are stronger. There were a lot of songs that didn’t make this album.

Whats a typical day on the road like for you?

Extremly busy. It can different, but usually I wake up and make business calls and see how things are doing then about 10 o’clock I’ll start school. From 1-2 o’clock I’m getting ready for press and promos, then from 2-5 o’clock I’m doing the promos. From 5-6 o’clock is sound checks for the show, 6-7 o’clock is more promos, then from 7-8 o’clock we’ll do show. Then 8-9 o’clock is meet and greets, 9-10 o’clock is usually more business calls and then I’ll head on to bed around 10 o’clock and get a full nights sleep before getting up and doing it all over the next day!

Greyson Chance: Hold On ‘Til The Night: August 2nd, 2011

Greyson Chance Popstar Interview at MTV Movie Awards

Greyson Chance attended the MTV Movie Awards on June 5th and had the opportunity to meet some of the biggest stars in Hollywood.  Greyson also walked the red carpet with the stars and was gobbled up by all the press eager to interview the young singer.  Popstar Magazine has followed Greyson with us from the start and they just released their carpet chat with him.

Recapping the Waiting4U Tour, Greyson said that he had a blast on the road with Cody Simpson but is now looking forward to the August 2nd release of his debut album Hold on ‘Til The Night!  The title song “Hold on “Til The Night” is Greyson’s favorite song on the album, so be sure to look for that!

On the carpet Greyson said that he wanted to meet Emma Watson, one of the stars from his favorite movie series, Harry Potter. (In case you didn’t read our earlier post, he did meet her!)

As far as where Greyson would go on tour if he had to choose somewhere on the spot, he said Paris, France! (Greyson loves his French fans!)

To finish up Greyson was asked what the biggest jaw dropping moment for him has been so far; Greyson said it’s all been pretty jaw dropping but after the release of his first album, he’s sure that will take the cake!

Greyson Chance on Good Morning America, Performs “Waiting Outside The Lines”

Greyson Chance made an appearance on the nationally televised Good Morning America early this A.M..  He talked about his tour with Cody Simpson, the new remix of Waiting Outside The Lines with Charice and his upcoming debut album, ‘Hold On ’til The Night‘.

A killer performance of Waiting Outside The Lines followed; Greyson performed in the GAM studios along with his band.  Not only was this broadcast to millions of viewers at home but also to Times Square!

“Hold On ‘Til The Night”, Greyson Chance Debut Album Out This Summer!

Greyson Chance has been working for months on his debut album which has remained unnamed until now!  We recently learned that the title of Greyson’s debut album will be Hold On ‘Til The Night and according to a recent Billboard.com interview, it will be released this summer!

In that same interview Greyson said he’s “about 80 percent” finished with it so there is still work to do.  Greyson has been in Los Angeles with seasoned producer, Ron Fair and the Matrix, a songwriting/production team for quite some time now and collectively they are working on putting together an album which we’ve been assured is going to be epic!

“The record sounds like a mix between Snow Patrol and OneRepublic; I think I would go in that ballpark. It’s pop-rock,” Greyson added.

Greyson is currently on tour with fellow teen idol, Cody Simpson but that hasn’t stopped the thirteen-year-old from laying it down in the studio.  A “day off” for Greyson may mean a break from touring, but he still gets to the studio regularly even on the road. “Whenever I have a day where I’m not on the road or doing a performance, I’m in the studio. I’m always writing and I’m starting to get into the production side as well. They work me really hard, but I like to be worked.”

Greyson is excited as much as anyone to release his first album, but don’t expect it to be his last.  According to Greyson we can bank on many more tours and many more albums to come!
