Greyson Chance Backstage with Ellen Degeneres at Teen Choice Awards

Ellen DeGeneres and Greyson Chance did a little bonding at the Teen Choice Awards, backstage!

Greyson Chance was nominated for the Web Star award but unfortunately got beaten out by Shane Dawson (congrats Shane!).  That didn’t stop the dynamic duo of Ellen DeGeneres and her first signed ElevenEleven artist, Greyson Chance from hanging out backstage together while having a little fun!  Ellen walked away from the show with both awards she was nominated for, “Choice Comedian” and “Choice Twit”.

Congrats to Greyson again for his nomination and to Ellen for winning both awards!

On another note, Greyson’s idol, Lady GaGa won “Choice Music Female Artist”!

Greyson Chance Talks about Ellen DeGeneres with

Greyson Chance recently spoke with about Ellen DeGeneres’s departure from American Idol.

We reported back on July 30th about how Ellen DeGeneres stepped down from the American Idol stage as a judge after just one season.  We highlighted several reasons that influenced the TV talk show host’s decision, but what does Greyson Chance think about it?  On Thursday, Chance had the opportunity to speak with about the subject.

He told Crushable that American Idol wasn’t a good fit for Ellen because she is so busy and way too nice.  Greyson stated, “I couldn’t judge people like that, and I can totally understand where she’s coming from… that’s Ellen.”  Greyson added, “Her schedule for Idol was very busy… she was rushing everywhere”.

As we’ve said before, Ellen has dedicated herself to Greyson, his career and her new record label, ElevenEleven.  The young singer realizes this; according to Greyson, Ellen has become a really good friend who is always there for him.

After taking about Ellen for a while, Greyson shifted gears and dished out some more information about his upcoming album which we now know is scheduled to be released in time for the holiday season.  We already knew that Greyson would be covering Lady Gaga’s “Paperazzi” and Augustana’s “Fire”, but we learned that one of his new songs will be called “I’m Done”.  Greyson told Crushable that this song isn’t about anyone in particular, “It’s someone I don’t know who makes me mad”.

In an unrelated topic, we also learned about one of Greyson’s favorite TV shows!  Greyson revealed that if he had his way, he would be starring on “Glee”, a musical comedy-drama television series that airs on FOX.

For those unfamiliar with, they deliver a unique environment, where their loyal readers and experienced editorial team engage and discuss the hot topics of the day.  Be sure to check them out!

Greyson Chance Carries on Oklahoma’s Rock Tradition

Most Greyson Chance fans know by now that he grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma; but did you know that he’s part of a proud tradition of Oklahoma musicians whose fame skyrocketed before they could even drive?  Yay, history lesson time!

Greyson Chance was just twelve-years-old when he was discovered on YouTube by TV talk show host and former American Idol judge, Ellen DeGeneres.  After performing on The Ellen Show, Greyson went from a small town Edmond kid to a world-wide known singing sensation.  With his new found fame, Greyson joined a very special group of kid stars who’ve contributed to Oklahoma’s rock tradition.

What many people outside of Oklahoma may not know is that Greyson hales from a state which has produced kid-stars such as the Collins Kids, Hanson and Crooked X.

The Collins Kids duo (Tahlequah, OK) featuring siblings Lawrencine “Lorrie” Collins and his brother Lawrence “Larry” Collins started their young careers in the 1950’s, producing hits such as “Beetle Bug Bop” and “Hop, Skip and Jump”.  Larry, the younger of the two was just 10 years old when he was considered a “guitar whiz” by respected members of the rock community.

Then there is Hanson (Tulsa, OK); the three brothers who are best known for their 1997 hit song, MMMBop.  Isaac, 16, Taylor, 13 and Zac, 11 in 1997 were even bigger than the current day Disney trio, the Jonas Brother.

Last we have Crooked X (Coweta, OK), the Tulsa based rockers were just 14 when they opened for greats like Kiss, Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper.  After winning a CBS talent competition in 2007 they landed a major-label debut album in which they wrote every song on the record.

Now Oklahoma can cheer on Greyson Chance as he carries on the rock tradition.  If you recall, during a recent interview with Twist Magazine, Greyson commented on his first album which he is currently recording in Los Angeles.  Greyson said the album will have, “some upbeat songs, some ballads and then I have some rock songs”.

Oklahoma is proud of you Greyson! Rock on!

Greyson Chance Interview by Twist Magazine

Greyson Chance was recently interviewed by Twist Magazine and GreysonChanceWeb has dug up all the details for you!

In an earlier post we told you that Greyson Chance visited the Twist Magazine offices for some PR work.  Well we managed to find the transcript from Greyson’s interview during his visit.  In this interview Twist Magazine asked Greyson about his favorite artists, his upcoming album and his new found fame.

The following interview is courtesy of Twist Magazine.

TWIST: What kind of music can we be expecting from you?
GREYSON: I have some upbeat songs, some ballads, and then I have some rock songs. So it’s pretty diverse but mainly I would say it’s pop rock.

TWIST: Who are some of your favorite artists? Who has inspired you?
GREYSON: One of my all-time favorite artists is Lady Gaga. One of my favorite bands is Augustana. I also like other artists like Elton John, John Legend, John Lennon, and Christina Aguilera.

TWIST: Is there anyone that you would love to do a collaboration with?
GREYSON: Hayley Williams. I love her voice; I think she’s just amazing. I would love to work with her.

TWIST: Have you met anyone who made you feel starstruck?
GREYSON: Yesterday when I was in Oklahoma, I went to the Lady Gaga concert. I got to meet her; she’s amazing, so nice and genuine. She gave me a lot of good advice. She told me to work hard, keep on writing, to keep on singing and follow my dream.

TWIST: Did Lady Gaga see your famous video?
GREYSON: Yes, I’m pretty sure she did. She called me up on the Ellen show the first time I was on.

TWIST: How did you feel when you first went on the Ellen show?
GREYSON: A lot of things were running through my head, but it was so comfortable. I just think I felt at home and relaxed. Also it’s just really fun.

TWIST: Often people compare you to Justin Bieber. How do you feel about that?
GREYSON: What Justin has done is ridiculous and to be compared to him is an honor. But I think we are really different, I think people are going to be so surprised when the album comes out because he sings more R&B music and I don’t. But he is an amazing artist.

TWIST: Do you know when the album is being released? Are you excited?
GREYSON: I honestly don’t know the release date yet. But I’m really excited. I think it’s kind of a different look than people would expect from me.

TWIST: Do you ever think about how quickly you’ve become famous?
GREYSON: Of course. I was at the Lady Gaga concert last night. She sang “Paparazzi”, and it hit me then. She’s amazing and she sang it so well but if she did not write that song, I would not be in the position I am in today. So that really hit me and then I was thinking if my brother wouldn’t have sent that video to Ellen I wouldn’t have had this experience either. It’s just all these things that happened, it’s a blessing.

TWIST: Does everyone at your school go crazy over you?
GREYSON: Well my school life, of course, has changed, but everyone has been really supportive and I really appreciate it. You know, with my friends it’s just the same, when I’m with them we don’t talk about it.

TWIST: Do you have any dating advice?
GREYSON: Be yourself, it’s the best thing you can do.

TWIST: Thanks Greyson!

Wow!  This was an awesome and extremely informative interview by Twist Magazine!  Great job!

ElevenEleven’s Ellen DeGeneres Leaves American Idol

After one season with Ellen DeGeneres judging on American Idol, she is stepping down to focus on Greyson Chance, her record label (ElevenEleven) and discovering new talent.

Ellen DeGeneres started on American Idol this year when she replaced Paula Abdul who left at the end of last season.  When the announcement was made that Ellen would be coming to Idol, there was lots of talk about what she would bring to the table with no musical experience.  Ellen answered these critics early on saying, “Hopefully, I’m the people’s point of view because I’m just like you… I’m looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person.”

Staying true to her word, Ellen realized that American Idol was not here scene.  Ellen said, “I let FOX and American Idol producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me… I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next.”

On June 1st GreysonChanceWeb reported that Ellen announced the grond breaking of her record label, ElevenEleven and signed her first artist, Greyson Chance.  With Ellen and Greyson now working together on his first album and Ellen’s quest to find the label’s next big artist, she said that her work schedule became too much.

Ellen said, “It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on ‘Idol’ and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”

It’s great to see that Ellen is really concentrating on Greyson and her label!

Greyson Chance, ElevenEleven with Interscope Records

Greyson Chance and Ellen DeGeneres’ ElevenEleven label goes with Interscope Records (Geffen Records)!

On June 1st we reported on Ellen’s announcement that Greyson Chance was signed by ElevenEleven records, a label she started after discovering Greyson on YouTube.  In this article we mentioned that there was a good possibility of Ellen’s new label establishing a partnership with a major record company such as Interscope Records.  At the time of this original article there were rumors all over the place that Greyson had signed with Interscope but most dismissed this possibility after Ellen’s announcement.

Today we learned that our initial speculation was absolutely correct!  (Whoever started the initial rumor was kinda’ right too!) We now know that Greyson is officially listed on the Interscope-Geffen-A&M label group website as one of their signed artists!

The Interscrope-Geffen-A&M label group is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group.  The group operates under three labels: Interscope, Geffen and A&M.  As of right now there is no official confirmation as to which label in particular Greyson will be operating under although there are several reports it’s Geffen Records.  We knew it was just a matter of time before Ellen attached herself with a giant such as Interscope, being that her label is still in the infant stages of development.

With this announcement Greyson is now part of  one of the largest and most respected record labels in the music industry.  Greyson will be among artists such as Eminem, Dr. Dre, The Black Eyed Peas and his biggest idol, Lady Gaga.  Being a part of such a huge label also opens up the door for collaboration with these other artists.  Think about it, how amazing would it be if Greyson Chance and Lady Gaga did a song together!
