Original Interview

BSC: You got your start by someone posting a video of you singing Lady Gaga’s song “Papparazzi” at a music festival. How does it feel that somebody posted a video up of you before you became famous?
Greyson: I pushed it to be all by myself. I pushed it, nobody else did. Yeah, it feels great, and you know I love “Papparazzi.” And I was just very lucky and blessed that Ellen found it.

BSC: Your brother sent her the link, didn’t he?
Greyson: Well, my brother sent her the link, but they contacted my mom, actually first.

BSC: Okay. And from there, she signed you, correct?
Greyson: Yeah, I’m signed to Ellen’s label eleveneleven, and also I’m signed to Maverick and Geffen Records, as well.

BSC: You released your first single in October. Do have plans for an album coming out or a tour? What are your plans for your music career this year?
Greyson: Well, I’m on tour right now. I’m on tour for Miranda Cosgrove. We’re in Houston right now, actually, and the tour is winding up. We have 3 more shows after tonight. And yeah, the record is going to come out this year, and hopefully I’ll be going on another tour and putting out another single and just keep on building and building.

BSC: Do you hope to have headlining tour of your own soon?
Greyson: Maybe. We’re gonna have to see. (Laughs a little.)

BSC: You also won an award earlier this year, I believe. The People’s Choice Award?
Greyson: I was nominated. I didn’t win.

BSC: Okay, cause it said on Wikipedia you won.
Greyson: Oh, no I didn’t win.

BSC: That’s Wikipedia for you. But how did it feel to be nominated on an award so early in your career?
Greyson: Well, it feels great, you know, and I felt honored to be nominated. It was so great, you know, and I thank my fans for getting me there and for voting. Even though we didn’t win, we still got nominated, so it was very incredible.

BSC: Do you hope one day to get nominated for a Grammy Award?
Greyson: Of course. That’s one of my biggest dreams.

BSC: Yeah, I think that is probably a big dream for any singer or celebrity at this point.
Greyson: Exactly!

BSC: You recenty met Jusin Beiber and Jaden Smith. Um, how did it feel to meet them and to meet a fellow YouTube star who got his start on YouTube?
Greyson: Well, Justin is an incredibly, really nice guy, and so it was great to meet him and Jaden. Yeah, it was really cool, and they’re both very nice guys.

BSC: Do you like being compared to Justin?
Greyson: Yeah, you know, we’re often compared, but my music is more pop-rock thing, so its different.

BSC: Do you think that YouTube has changed the music industry forever by allowing people to be get their start by posting videos? How do you feel about it?
Greyson: Well, I think that YouTube has definitely changed the way artists are discovered now. It’s a great thing, I think, you know, having young artists and people full of talent being discovered by YouTube. It’s a great way to be discovered. You can find a lot of talent on YouTube.

BSC: You’ve often said that you would like to work with Lady Gaga before, but who else would like to work with in the future?
Greyson: Well, I’m bag fans of lots of artists. I love Christina Aguilera, I love Gaga, of course, I love Hayley Williams, so I don’t know, maybe I’ll throw a duet in the mix here pretty soon.

BSC: Any advice to young future stars who want to break out into the music industry?
Greyson: Young celebrities or just young people?

BSC: Young people who want to break out into the music industry.
Greyson: Oh, okay. Well, you know, you have to just keep following your dreams, and let nobody bring you down because, you know, when I was a kid I said I wanted to be a singer, I wanted to be signed and go on tour. And everyone would tell me, “Oh you’re never going to make it, you’re from Oklahoma, you’re not gonna get there.” These kids have huge dreams, you just gotta keep on.

BSC: Okay! Do you have any last words or thoughts for your fans who will read the interview?
Greyson: Well, you know, I love my fans so much, they mean the world to me. They’re the reason why I’m here. Just thank you for all the love and support.

A big thanks goes out to BSC Kids for taking the time to interview Greyson and posting it online for us!  Awesome chat!

Greyson Chance Impromptu Interview with KDWB’s Big D

Greyson Chance hung out with Big D from KDWB radio while at the Mall of America back on January 25th.

While in Minnesota (before his performance at the State Theatre) Greyson Chance was in concert at the Mall of America.  Minnesota’s own ‘Big D”, host of KDWB 101.3 was on hand and caught up with Greyson for an impromptu interview.

After complementing Greyson on his success so far, Big D talked with the thirteen-year-old super star about how he was discovered.  Big D was extremely impressed with Greyson and was surprised how well he carries himself at such a young age.

Big D brought up the fact that many artists branch out and do other things outside the music industry such as clothing lines or calognes but Greyson said that he really wants to stay in music and can’t imagine himself doing anything else.

Lady Gaga and Greyson’s iPod playlist were among some of the other things the two discussed during the 4-minute chat, so check it out below!

Greyson Chance in the Studio, Behind the Scenes

Greyson Chance has been in the studio for months now, hard at work recording his debut album.  Since landing a record deal with both ElevenEleven and Interscope records, Los Angeles has become Greyson’s home away from home and the base for his recording.

Today Greyson’s #1 Fansite has gotten our hands on some behind-the-scenes footage of Greyson Chance in the studio and are please to bring it to you first!  In this short clip Greyson tells us that he still doesn’t consider L.A. his home, but sees it as the place he goes to record his music.  As explained by Greyson, his favorite part of hitting the studio is putting on the “big headphones” and really getting into it.

Highlighted in this newly released clip is Greyson’s original “Stars” song.  Greyson talks to us about how it wasn’t until recently he started writing and composing his own music.  The formula Greyson uses in his creative process usually involves creating the music first and then adding in the lyrics afterward.

Without further ado, check out this awesome behind the scenes clip of Greyson Chance in the recording studio, as he works to record “Stars”.

Greyson Chance Album Update

Greyson Chance stopped by the ClevverTV studio again recently and sat down with hosts Dana Ward and Joslyn Davis to discuss some update on his new album.

First Greyson talked about his record labels, ElevenEleven and Geffen/Interscope records.  We learned that Greyson hasn’t been working with ElevenEleven very much due to the fact that it’s such a new label and still getting its feet wet.  It’s expected that Greyson will work a lot more with the label in the years to come as it becomes more established.  Interscope has definitely been taking the lead with Greyson on the album and Ron Fair, the veteran Interscope record producer and songwriter (with over 25 years in the industry) has been right next to him during the process.

Dana brought up the point that Greyson is very hands on with the record making process and actually wrote most of the songs on his album.  Greyson told us that he got inspiration for the album from “A lot of weird random things”.  The name of the album (which has not yet been released) as well as the imagery which will be used on the cover was handpicked by Greyson during his first photoshoot back in July.

Greyson then talked a little about the methodology behind his writing style.  Greyson said himself, “It’s kind of weird how I work when it comes to writing”.  Greyson admits that he doesn’t have the capability to just sit down at any time and start writing.  Instead the ideas must be there, usually from something that he’s been inspired by.  The biggest inspiration’s Greyson has pulled from during this process have been the likes of Lady Gaga, Elton John, John Lennon, John Legend and Christina Aguilera.

Digging deeper into the details of the album Greyson talked about the style of music we should expect to hear.  We learned that the album will consist of an interesting mix of tracks that will include songs with a band as well as solo piano tracks performed by Greyson himself.  What we shouldn’t expect to hear are love songs; Greyson tells us that he really didn’t focus the album on that topic and says that he tends to write a lot of sad songs but tried to mix them with an up-tempo beat.

So what about Greyson Chance music videos?  Well Greyson says that he’ll be recording some music videos “pretty soon”, much to the surprise of Dana Ward.  Dana asked Greyson if he was a dancer; he responded by laughing and indicating that he would do his best!

Finishing off Greyson tells Dana and Joslyn that he hopes everyone likes the album and promises to keep us updated with any new details.  We can expect to see the release of Greyson’s first single any time now; it has had a scheduled release of late September or early October.  So stay tuned to Greyson’s #1 Fansite for the very latest, we’ll have all the details for your first!

Check out the video interview below of Greyson Chance at the ClevverTV studios.

Ellen DeGeneres Looking for Next Greyson Chance

Ellen DeGeneres continues her search for the world’s “Next Greyson Chance”.

Ellen DeGeneres has been searching high and low, near and far for the next ElevenEleven artist.  It was about 2 ½ months ago when we learned that Ellen DeGeneres had signed Greyson Chance as the first artist on her new record label which is named “ElevenEleven”.  Shortly following this announcement we also learned that Ellen and Greyson would be partnering up with Geffen/Interscope for a joint release of Greyson’s first album.  During the past few months Greyson has been working diligently on his record while Ellen has been hunting down new talent for the label.

We originally told you back in early July that Ellen had begun searching for the label’s next artist and late last night we learned that she’s still going at it!  Ellen posted to her Facebook page “I’m always looking for amazing musicians for my new record label.  Is there someone you think I should know about?”  The TV show host turned record label owner also posted a link to a submission form where you can submit your videos to Ellen!

To date, Ellen has posted four artists to her website which she really likes.  The most popular of them so far (by far) is a young man named Alex Goot.  Alex is an amazingly talented person who not only sings but plays pretty much every instrument imaginable.  Be sure to check out Alex and the other artist over on Ellen’s website.

Greyson Chance’s career took off because of Ellen.  If you have the talent, send in a video and you may just be the next Greyson Chance!

Greyson Chance: Let the Haters Hate

Greyson Chance let the haters hate!

You know you’ve made it when haters come out from the woodwork and take time out of their day to do what they do best, hate on you!  For Greyson Chance, his growing popularity has sparked this reality.

About three months ago Greyson posted a video of himself on YouTube singing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” at the Edmond music festival. Immediately comments started to pour in praising his talent and natural singing ability. The first comment on Greyson’s video, “FREAKING AMAZING” was quickly followed by “I have serious goosebumps”, “Awesome” and “Take that Justin Bieber”. We could go on for hours listing all the positive feedback Greyson received.

It didn’t take long though for the haters to emerge once Greyson’s popularity began to rise. Following amazing back-to-back performances on the nationally televised talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres show and the announcement that he had been signed to ElevenEleven Geffen/Interscope records, the haters could no longer resist and started to go to work.

Greyson’s Paparazzi performance video which was once flooded with praise and encouragement quickly became injected with sparingly ridiculous comments from those that were trying to hold the singing sensation back. While it’s understood that everyone is entitled to their opinions, it’s obvious what someone’s intentions are when they go out of their way to negatively comment on another persons talent.

You can take anyone who has made something of themselves and find at least one person who has tried to bring them down. This fact became apparent to Greyson very early on; with his huge fan following came a small group of haters who tagged along, trying to hold him back from achieving his dreams. Greyson has pushed on though, ignoring them and focusing on his music and his fans.

In a recent Interview with MOG Music Network, Greyson was asked how he was handling all the haters. Greyson responded by saying:

“Gotta let the haters hate on me just a little…is it Mariah Carey? “Hate On Me, Hater”? Everything is gonna have haters and you just gotta let the haters hate you. I don’t care really. I just want to make sure my fans are happy with what I’m doing. The haters are outside of the circle.”

With Greyson’s music career just beginning and with the continued growth of his fan base, it’s inevitable that haters will continue their work. We have a message for them though: “Keep on hating, all the way to the top!”.

Greyson Chance on UrbLife

Greyson Chance was recently featured on UrbLife.com in a story about parents who share videos of their kids online.

UrbLife.com, is a popular destination online that produces a digital magazine geared towards the Hip Hop generation.  They feature interviews, editorials and reviews about celebrities, film, TV and more.  Greyson is featured in a recent article by Tennille Patterson where the controversial topic is addressed of whether parents should share videos of their children online.

Tennille starts off by pointing out that it was only a few years ago when most of the world considered home videos to be just that, “home” videos; something that was shared at home with family.  With the introduction of online video sharing a few years back and the launch of YouTube and similar services, this concept quickly changed.  Today millions of videos are posted in cyberspace, including one very special clip uploaded by Greyson Chance a few months ago.

For Greyson, the risk was definitely worth the reward.  Over 30 million views later, Greyson now has a record deal with ElevenEleven records and the Geffen/Interscope label.  He’s become a household name across the world and is currently working on recording his debut album, set to be released later this year.

Greyson certainly is not the first kid star to be found online; we can guarantee he will not be the last but he’ll always be the best!  You can checkout the other viral videos talked about in the article and read the story in its entirety over at UrbLife.com.

Greyson has told us before that it was his decision to post the video of his performance online, however his parents chose not to counter this choice (which we are super glad they didn’t!)  So what is your opinion on this topic?  Do you think it’s okay for parents to post videos of their kids online?  Leave us a note in the comments section below and tell us your thoughts!

Greyson Chance, ElevenEleven with Interscope Records

Greyson Chance and Ellen DeGeneres’ ElevenEleven label goes with Interscope Records (Geffen Records)!

On June 1st we reported on Ellen’s announcement that Greyson Chance was signed by ElevenEleven records, a label she started after discovering Greyson on YouTube.  In this article we mentioned that there was a good possibility of Ellen’s new label establishing a partnership with a major record company such as Interscope Records.  At the time of this original article there were rumors all over the place that Greyson had signed with Interscope but most dismissed this possibility after Ellen’s announcement.

Today we learned that our initial speculation was absolutely correct!  (Whoever started the initial rumor was kinda’ right too!) We now know that Greyson is officially listed on the Interscope-Geffen-A&M label group website as one of their signed artists!

The Interscrope-Geffen-A&M label group is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group.  The group operates under three labels: Interscope, Geffen and A&M.  As of right now there is no official confirmation as to which label in particular Greyson will be operating under although there are several reports it’s Geffen Records.  We knew it was just a matter of time before Ellen attached herself with a giant such as Interscope, being that her label is still in the infant stages of development.

With this announcement Greyson is now part of  one of the largest and most respected record labels in the music industry.  Greyson will be among artists such as Eminem, Dr. Dre, The Black Eyed Peas and his biggest idol, Lady Gaga.  Being a part of such a huge label also opens up the door for collaboration with these other artists.  Think about it, how amazing would it be if Greyson Chance and Lady Gaga did a song together!
