Greyson Chance Talks ‘Hold On ‘Til The Night’ with Examiner

Greyson Chance sat down with Marian Tuin, a pop music journalist with Examiner.com to discuss his upcoming debut album Hold On ‘Til The Night which is scheduled to be released on August 2nd.

Marian described Greyson as “articulate” and “gracious” following her interview with him in the studio as he was finishing up the album.

Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

You can read the complete interview here.

Marian: Let’s start by talking about the album, is it more a collection of songs or written around a theme?

Greyson: “You know it’s just basically, from when I’ve been writing it to when I’ve been cutting the record, it’s gone through a year of my life. You really hear the different emotions that you’re going to feel during a year.  You hear heartbreak in some, you hear anger, you hear sadness, you hear happiness in some, and you hear I’m in love in some songs. The general theme of this record that I was very inspired by was that I was going through heartbreak at the time when I was writing it. And so I think the general theme of this is a heartbroken record.”

Marian: How did you come up with the title for it?

Greyson: Hold on ‘Til the Night is actually one of the songs from the record, so it’s a title song. When I was in the studio writing this record, I was very, something wasn’t right that day. I was very sad, I was heartbroken, I was insecure about how this song was going to happen, I was missing my friends. So I went into the studio and I told myself that day I need to write a record that is going to get me back up on my feet because as an artist and as my duty to my fans I need to be able to gain courage. I wrote that record from gaining courage and when I was writing it I could just picture myself and my fans, because the chorus is: (sings) ‘Hold onto the night get out of your own way’. So it’s like saying don’t be afraid, gain courage, take a risk. And when I was writing the record I was imaging me and my fans just running towards this light, this endless light and we were just running and we were gaining courage.”

Marian: Have you written all the songs and music on the album?

Greyson: “I haven’t fully written the whole album. There’s a lot of collaborations, a lot of co-writes and them some of the records, very few, I didn’t write. Most of the record is written by me but everything from the mixing, the production, the vocal riffs, everything creatively I’m very involved in.”

Marian: So did you know the production side of things, or is that something you learned working on this album?

Greyson: “I’ve gotten into production a lot by working on this record. I’m actually in the studio right now talking to you. We’re just finishing up everything today, so it’s a big day. I’ve learned a lot about production and I’ve been in my seat back a lot with the producers. And what I think is so great about this record is that everybody I have worked with has really respected me.”

Marian: What have been or are currently are some of the biggest challenges you face?

Greyson: “I think its being in this business and constantly traveling, it tends to get very lonely. Usually when people ask me this question they always ask, ‘It probably has to be how the press has this huge spectacle on you.’ And you know it’s not really about that for me. I feel as if, if my name is in headlines than I’m obviously doing something right. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to go cause a huge scandal because I was raised right by my parents and I would never do that. People are always thinking that it’s because of the press and that’s the hardest thing and it’s really just that sometimes at the end of the day it gets lonely being on the road and being an artist.”

First Look: Greyson Chance Performing “Waiting Outside The Lines” on The Ellen Show

Greyson Chance will debut his new single “Waiting Outside the Lines” on the Ellen DeGeneres Show today and Greyson’s #1 Fansite has already gotten a first look for you!

That’s right, it may be 12:04 in the morning but that hasn’t stopped us from getting our hands on a photo of what we believe is Greyson Chance performing his new (soon to be hit) single on The Ellen Show which will air later today.

The first thing we noticed in this picture is that Greyson is no longer alone!  Off set behind Greyson appears to be a full band including two guitarists and a drummer!  Greyson is also rocking a fresh new style as well as a new haircut (which shows his ears!).

We’ll have complete coverage of Greyson’s Ellen performance later, we just wanted to give you this first look at what you can expect to see on the show!  Set your DVRs or tune in live, check your local listings.

Here is a video The Ellen Show posted early featuring Greyson Chance talking about his experience performing “Waiting Outside the Lines”!

Greyson Chance’s Single: Waiting Outside the Lines

Greyson Chance’s debut single is called “Waiting Outside the Lines” and is scheduled to be released October 26, 2010!

Early this morning we told you that Ellen DeGeneres would be announcing on her show today the name of Greyson’s single which he’s diligently been working on for months now.  For those of you that were working, in school, sleeping (or sleeping in school) and didn’t get a chance (no pun intended) to tune in, it’s called “Waiting Outside the Lines”.

During a short segment on The Ellen Show today, Ellen DeGeneres made the exciting announcement herself, saying:

“Greyson Chance, he is the amazing singer that I found on YouTube last year.  His first single is coming out Tuesday October 26th, that’s a week from today.  It’s called Waiting Outside the Lines and he’s going to be here Tuesday to perform it… next Tuesday.  So I’m very excited for ya’ll to hear it ‘cause it’s a fantastic song and he’s adorable.”

We’ve been waiting months for this announcement and we are super excited that the release date has been set and we are right around the corner from hearing a taste of what Greyson has been working night and day on.  Greyson’s full length album is expected to drop later this year so this single should give us an idea of what we can expect to hear on that.

Greyson Chance has teamed up with industry giant, Interscope Records to release this this single, so you can expect to see much more on this to come!

We will have continuing and complete coverage of Greyson’s new single and all the details on where you can purchase the record from shortly, so stay tuned!

Greyson Chance Album Update

Greyson Chance stopped by the ClevverTV studio again recently and sat down with hosts Dana Ward and Joslyn Davis to discuss some update on his new album.

First Greyson talked about his record labels, ElevenEleven and Geffen/Interscope records.  We learned that Greyson hasn’t been working with ElevenEleven very much due to the fact that it’s such a new label and still getting its feet wet.  It’s expected that Greyson will work a lot more with the label in the years to come as it becomes more established.  Interscope has definitely been taking the lead with Greyson on the album and Ron Fair, the veteran Interscope record producer and songwriter (with over 25 years in the industry) has been right next to him during the process.

Dana brought up the point that Greyson is very hands on with the record making process and actually wrote most of the songs on his album.  Greyson told us that he got inspiration for the album from “A lot of weird random things”.  The name of the album (which has not yet been released) as well as the imagery which will be used on the cover was handpicked by Greyson during his first photoshoot back in July.

Greyson then talked a little about the methodology behind his writing style.  Greyson said himself, “It’s kind of weird how I work when it comes to writing”.  Greyson admits that he doesn’t have the capability to just sit down at any time and start writing.  Instead the ideas must be there, usually from something that he’s been inspired by.  The biggest inspiration’s Greyson has pulled from during this process have been the likes of Lady Gaga, Elton John, John Lennon, John Legend and Christina Aguilera.

Digging deeper into the details of the album Greyson talked about the style of music we should expect to hear.  We learned that the album will consist of an interesting mix of tracks that will include songs with a band as well as solo piano tracks performed by Greyson himself.  What we shouldn’t expect to hear are love songs; Greyson tells us that he really didn’t focus the album on that topic and says that he tends to write a lot of sad songs but tried to mix them with an up-tempo beat.

So what about Greyson Chance music videos?  Well Greyson says that he’ll be recording some music videos “pretty soon”, much to the surprise of Dana Ward.  Dana asked Greyson if he was a dancer; he responded by laughing and indicating that he would do his best!

Finishing off Greyson tells Dana and Joslyn that he hopes everyone likes the album and promises to keep us updated with any new details.  We can expect to see the release of Greyson’s first single any time now; it has had a scheduled release of late September or early October.  So stay tuned to Greyson’s #1 Fansite for the very latest, we’ll have all the details for your first!

Check out the video interview below of Greyson Chance at the ClevverTV studios.

Ellen DeGeneres Visits Greyson Chance in the Studio

July 9th Ellen DeGeneres went to check on Greyson Chance in the studio.  Ellen updated her followers on Twitter and let them know she was visiting Greyson in the studio.  Ellen told to us how amazed she was at what she heard and was really excited about what Greyson was working on.  Ellen adds that she can’t wait for Greyson’s fans to hear the new material.

It must have been exciting for Greyson to see Ellen again.  At the Eclipse movie premiere interview, Greyson talked about how he couldn’t wait to see Ellen again.

Could You be the next ElevenEleven Artist?

Everyone who has ”made it” caught their big break at one time or another that launched their careers.  Greyson Chance’s big break was Ellen DeGeneres and her talk show.  As we know, Ellen discovered Greyson on YouTube and brought him on her television show to perform, turning him into an overnight superstar.  Greyson inspired Ellen to start up her own record label which she called “ElevenEleven”; Greyson was signed as her first artist.  Could you be Ellen’s second artist?

Ellen is now on the hunt for the label’s next breakout star and it could be you!  This summer Ellen will be posting videos on her website, TheEllenShow.com of untapped talent.  If you (or somebody you know) can sing, submit your video to Ellen.

Remember, if you have a dream, pursue that dream and never give up!

Greyson Chance Moves to Los Angeles to Record

Yup…that’s right, it’s official! Greyson Chance announced himself that he has moved to Los Angeles, California for two months with his family to record his first album. This is awesome news for all the Greysonaholics out there!  If you are anything like me, you’re dieing at this point to hear what he puts down in the studio.

Greyson’s journey in Los Angeles will be documented by the Ellen DeGeneres show by way of vlogs.  The first vlog (below) was just released and is brought to you by GreysonChanceWeb.com courtesy of The Ellen Show.

Greyson Chance Signed Signed by Ellen DeGeneres

We brushed on this topic in an earlier post but we wanted to make sure all of our readers know that Ellen DeGeneres has officially signed Greyson Chance as her first artist on the ElevenEleven record label.  Ellen’s discovery of Greyson Chance inspired her to start her own record label and in turn sign Greyson as her first artist.  Ellen stated that she had been thinking about starting a record label for a long time and the discovery of Greyson inspired her to pursue that dream.

During a recent interview with Ellen she said “I’m looking forward to working with Greyson on his first album, I’m looking forward to discovering more new artists”.

So what about the Interscope Records rumor?  There have been several reports online indicating that Greyson had signed with Interscope records.  While it’s official that Greyson will be on Ellen’s EleveEleven label, we believe that the possibility still exists he will also be signed to Interscrope or perhaps another major label.  Maybe it will be Atlantic Records or what about Diddy’s Bad Boy label?  Diddy was at one of Greyson’s performances on The Ellen Show…. who knows!?

I’m sure we will be hearing a lot more about the record label arrangement in the weeks to come, so stay tuned!
