Greyson Chance Turns to Fans for Song Suggestions

Greyson Chance has been performing covers of songs since he was a young boy living in Edmond, Oklahoma.  He is turning to his fans though for suggestions on what songs he should cover next, during his Asia tour next month.

Greyson’s most notable cover to date, launching his music career, remains his famous rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” which he performed at Edmond’s sixth grade music festival.  Since posting that video on YouTube nearly two-years ago Greyson has covered a number of songs during his live concerts including Augustana’s “Fire”, Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” and Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory”, just to name a few.

Today Greyson told his fans on Twitter (all 1,742,000 + of them) that he is working on his set list for the Asia tour and would like suggestions as to what songs he should cover during it.  You can help Greyson out by tweeting him suggestions, @GreysonChance.

(Example: “@GreysonChanceMe said you were looking for suggestions. @GreysonChance you should cover “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra!”)

So what do you think Greyson should cover during his upcoming Asia tour?  Even if you live in another region, there is no doubt that these covers will be posted right here on Greyson’s fan site during the tour thanks to all his fans in Asia, so tweet away!

Greyson Chance Talks ‘Hold On ‘Til The Night’ with Examiner

Greyson Chance sat down with Marian Tuin, a pop music journalist with Examiner.com to discuss his upcoming debut album Hold On ‘Til The Night which is scheduled to be released on August 2nd.

Marian described Greyson as “articulate” and “gracious” following her interview with him in the studio as he was finishing up the album.

Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

You can read the complete interview here.

Marian: Let’s start by talking about the album, is it more a collection of songs or written around a theme?

Greyson: “You know it’s just basically, from when I’ve been writing it to when I’ve been cutting the record, it’s gone through a year of my life. You really hear the different emotions that you’re going to feel during a year.  You hear heartbreak in some, you hear anger, you hear sadness, you hear happiness in some, and you hear I’m in love in some songs. The general theme of this record that I was very inspired by was that I was going through heartbreak at the time when I was writing it. And so I think the general theme of this is a heartbroken record.”

Marian: How did you come up with the title for it?

Greyson: Hold on ‘Til the Night is actually one of the songs from the record, so it’s a title song. When I was in the studio writing this record, I was very, something wasn’t right that day. I was very sad, I was heartbroken, I was insecure about how this song was going to happen, I was missing my friends. So I went into the studio and I told myself that day I need to write a record that is going to get me back up on my feet because as an artist and as my duty to my fans I need to be able to gain courage. I wrote that record from gaining courage and when I was writing it I could just picture myself and my fans, because the chorus is: (sings) ‘Hold onto the night get out of your own way’. So it’s like saying don’t be afraid, gain courage, take a risk. And when I was writing the record I was imaging me and my fans just running towards this light, this endless light and we were just running and we were gaining courage.”

Marian: Have you written all the songs and music on the album?

Greyson: “I haven’t fully written the whole album. There’s a lot of collaborations, a lot of co-writes and them some of the records, very few, I didn’t write. Most of the record is written by me but everything from the mixing, the production, the vocal riffs, everything creatively I’m very involved in.”

Marian: So did you know the production side of things, or is that something you learned working on this album?

Greyson: “I’ve gotten into production a lot by working on this record. I’m actually in the studio right now talking to you. We’re just finishing up everything today, so it’s a big day. I’ve learned a lot about production and I’ve been in my seat back a lot with the producers. And what I think is so great about this record is that everybody I have worked with has really respected me.”

Marian: What have been or are currently are some of the biggest challenges you face?

Greyson: “I think its being in this business and constantly traveling, it tends to get very lonely. Usually when people ask me this question they always ask, ‘It probably has to be how the press has this huge spectacle on you.’ And you know it’s not really about that for me. I feel as if, if my name is in headlines than I’m obviously doing something right. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to go cause a huge scandal because I was raised right by my parents and I would never do that. People are always thinking that it’s because of the press and that’s the hardest thing and it’s really just that sometimes at the end of the day it gets lonely being on the road and being an artist.”

Lyrics – Words to Light Up The Dark

Light Up The Dark Lyrics

Byways, highways, freeways, I’m always yours
Smoke billowing from your blue eyes that got me from the start
Planes glowing bright in the distance
We’re rising high

(Chorus)
I am love sick and I just can’t be healed
It happened so quick, now I’m head over heels
For you ‘cause you’re the love of my heart
You’re the match and we’re the spark, we’re fire
We light up the dark
We light up the dark

Stars shinning, rain falling, love is starting with us
Free flowing melodies playing on and on and on
Planes glowing bright in the distance
We’re rising high
[Visit GreysonChanceWeb.com]

(Chorus)
I am love sick and I just can’t be healed
It happened so quick, now I’m head over heels
For you ‘cause you’re the love of my heart
You’re the match and we’re the spark, we’re fire
We light up the dark
We light up the dark

I am a different person waiting for you
You have changed me, arranged me into something new
Love sick and I can’t just behave
[Visit GreysonChanceWeb.com]

(Chorus)
Love sick and I just can’t be healed
It happened so quick, now I’m head over heels
For you because you’re the love of my heart
You’re the match and we’re the spark, we’re fire
We light up the dark

(Chorus)
Love sick and I just can’t be healed
It happened so quick, now I’m head over heels
For you because you’re the love of my heart
You’re the match and we’re the spark, we’re fire
We light up the dark

The two are working on a top secret project together and we can’t wait to hear what they have in store!  Nick is an amazing artist and together with Greyson, the duo are bound to produce greatness!!!  Stay tuned for more on this!

Greyson Chance Takes Over Radio Disney

Greyson Chance appeared on Radio Disney’s – The Take Over today and performed an acoustic version of his new single, “Waiting Outside The Lines” for the first time ever.

In this acoustic performance Greyson changes things up a bit and really adds a whole to “flavor” to to the song.  Many fans have sent us messages since hearing the performance saying that they thought this version was better than the studio release!  There is no doubt that there are still a group of Greysonators that love old-school Greyson where it’s just him and a piano!

Greyson Chance Beatweek Magazine Interview

Greyson Chance recently met Bill Palmer of Beatweek Magazine and the two sat down for an interview to discuss Greyson’s new single, “Waiting Outside the Lines” among a wide variety of other topics.

The interview gets underway with Bill asking Greyson to tell us a little bit about Waiting Outside The Lines.  Greyson responds by saying, “It’s a very important song to me”.  He explains that the meaning of the song is that even if you have an emotional breakdown, it’s something that will help you get past hard times in your life.  Greyson wants his fans to be able to listen to the song when they’re feeling down and realize that things are going to get better.

Bill then asks Greyson if he writes his own songs.  Although Greyson does write most of his songs, he said that he did not write this one.  Greyson says that when he heard this song he thought it stayed true to what he believes in and he was really into the song when he first heard it.  Greyson’s said “This is a song that means so much to me, so I’m just really happy that today is the day.”

Bill pointed out in the interview that when Greyson was performing on The Ellen Show yesterday, mid performance he stepped away from the piano and went center stage where he just sang the vocals.  Greyson said that this is something we will see more of because to him it’s important that he shows a different side of what he can do.

About six months ago Greyson met Ellen for the first time and just now is Greyson’s first single being released.  Bill asked Greyson if he took his time making the single and if so, why?  According to Greyson there were a lot of different version of the song but didn’t want to rush the final product.  “We wanted to take our time with this one to make sure it was perfect” Greyson commented.

With Greyson’s fame skyrocketing in recent months, Bill asked Greyson if there are moments when he’s out and about and is recognized by people who interrupt him.  Greyson says that he can still go out to eat without too much trouble but finds it incredible when people approach him and ask to shake his hand. “I can still go out and go with my friends” he adds.

Moving on Bill asked Greyson what it’s been like dealing with “industry people” over the past few months and inquired about if they treat him differently because he’s a kid.  Greyson acknowledged that he does sometimes get treated like a kid but says that his team is always behind him and he’s backed by the best record label in the world (Interscope).  “Everyone is just so kind and so awesome” Greyson said.

Some other things Greyson talked about during the interview included the fact that John Lennon is a huge inspiration of his and sees him as one of the best writers ever to walk the earth.   Greyson also talks about what a great feeling it is to have industry “heavy weights” such as Perez Hilton and Lady Gaga showing support for him.  Also discussed was Greyson’s ant-bullying campaign; this is a subject near and dear to his heart because of all the lives being lost by it.  On a lighter note Greyson tell us about one of his favorite television shows, Glee and says that he would do anything to be on that show.

Greyson was also asked about his online presence, specifically on Twitter.  It was brought to Greyson’s attention by Bill that he has about 250,000 followers on Twitter (it’s actually over 290,000 now) and he’s following more than half of them back.  Greyson said that he knows how good it feels to be followed by somebody and if people are willing to follow him, he thinks he should do so as well.  Greyson also stated that he receives a ton of direct messages through Twitter and loves replying to his fans because “they’re incredible”.

Finishing things off Greyson tells us that a good amount of his full-length album is complete.  He also states that the album will be released sometime in early 2011.  Greyson also spills the beans on which recording studio he was last at in Los Angeles, Record Planet!

This was an awesome interview by Bill Palmer and Beatweek Magazine and we thank them for taking the time to provide us with all this great information!

Greyson Chance Opens Up About Bullying

Greyson Chance made his fourth appearance on The Ellen Show Today but he wasn’t just there to debut his new single, “Waiting Outside the Lines”.  Greyson and Ellen DeGeneres took a few moments to talk about bullying as well.

Ellen addressed Greyson saying, “I was listening to some of your new material… you wrote a song about everything that’s going on with bullying”.

Greyson responded, “The song is called Purple Sky… the whole meaning for the song is when kids are feeling horrible things… I want kids to late at night when there crying and they feel so low to listen to the song and just be like it’s going to get better!”

We’ve partnered with Greyson Chance and Ellen DeGeneres to combat the growing epidemic of bullying by launching our “The Chance to Stop Bullying” campaign.  Remember to Tweet the hash tag #TheChanceToStopBullying and take a stand against bullies!

Waiting Outside the Lines

You’ll never enjoy your life,
living inside the box
You’re so afraid of taking chances,
how you gonna reach the top?

Rules and regulations,
force you to play it safe
Get rid of all the hesitation,
it’s time for you to seize the daaay

Instead of just sitting around
and looking down on tomorrow
You gotta let your feet off the ground,
the time is now

I’m waiting, waiting, just waiting,
I’m waiting, waiting outside the lines
Waiting outside the lines
Waiting outside the lines

Try to have no regrets
even if it’s just tonight
How you gonnna walk ahead
if you keep living behind

Stuck in the same position,
you deserve so much more
There’s a whole world around us,
just waiting to be explored

Instead of just sitting around
and looking down on tomorrow
You gotta let your feet off the ground,
the time is now, just let it go

The world will force you to smile
I’m here to help you notice the rainbow
Cause I know,
What’s in you is out there

I’m waiting, waiting, just waiting,
I’m waiting, waiting outside the lines
Waiting outside the lines
Waiting outside the lines

I’m trying to be patient (I’m trying to be patient)
the first step is the hardest (the hardest)
I know you can make it,
go ahead and take it

I’m waiting, waiting, just waiting
I’m waiting, waiting outside the lines
Waiting outside the lines

Greyson Chance Lyrics

Greyson Chance Covers Augustana’s “Fire”

Greyson Chance turned up the heat a bit in a video just posted to his official YouTube channel where the teen singer absolutely killed it singing his version of Augustana’s “Fire”.

There hasn’t been much activity on Greyson’s YouTube channel since he uploaded six videos four months ago, including the popular “Paparazzi” cover which has racked up close to 32 million views and launched his music career.  The silence was broken this morning though after Greyson uploaded a new video of himself singing “Fire” by Augustana.  If you’re a reader of Greyson’s #1 Fansite then you already know that he will release a studio version of “Fire” on one of his upcoming albums, but that didn’t stop him from giving us a little sneak-peak!

We were among the first to checkout his new release and already there were over 200 comments praising the thirteen-year-old singing sensation.  ZipChic99 said, “I get goose bumps from his voice, excellent song too”.  Mary Alexandra told us “In love, no comparison to anyone” and Annie was super impressed when she commented, “Wow, you have an amazing voice; you put so much variety into singing one song, love it”.

One of the first things you’ll notice when checking out this new cover is that Greyson’s ancient friend, the Greyson family piano has been swapped out for a brand new one.  Several months back we learned on The Ellen Show that Greyson was given a brand new piano from Yamaha, so this raises the question, is this that new piano?  GCW learned that this cover was record in Greyson’s apartment in Los Angeles.  After a bit of research it’s believed that we’ve also identified this piano as being from Yamaha’s “Upright” series; either the U1SG, U3SG, YUS1SG, YUS3SG or YUS5SG model.  So it’s definitely a good possibility that this is in fact the piano given to Greyson by Yamaha on The Ellen DeGeneres Show a few months back.

The second thing you’ll notice about the video is that Greyson has traded in his hoody sweatshirt and Adidas gym shorts (which he previously had worn in his cover videos) for a much more clean, professional and updated look.  In the video Greyson sports a long sleeve plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up, jeans and a few of his signature bracelets.  Greyson’s also styling with a fresh rocker haircut too!

The third thing you notice is when Greyson opens his mouth and starts singing.  Talk about being blown away!  I’m not sure if you’ve heard Augustana’s original version of this song (YouTube it), but we think that Greyson’s version is wayyy better! (Sorry Augustana!)  For a video recorded in an apartment, with the acoustics being less than favorable, Greyson sounded amazing!

A big thanks goes out to Greyson Chance from GCW for posting this video and giving us a little sneak peak for what we can expect on your upcoming album.  As if we weren’t already dying to get our hands on some new songs, this cover has only added to that desire.  We can’t wait!

Another “thank you” goes out to all of Greyson’s fans who have supported him and his Fansite, GreysonChanceWeb.com.  This only marks the beginning of great things to come, so stay tuned and rock on!
