Greyson Chance Performs at ACLU Bill of Rights Dinner

Greyson Chance performed at the ACLU Bill of Rights Dinner on December 12th, 2011.

The event took place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverley Hills, California.  In celebration of the 220th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Southern California hosted a dinner to pay tribute to several award recipients.  Greyson was the evenings special musical guest performer!

One of the recipients of the 2011 Bill of Rights Award was Troy Carter, the CEO of Atom Factory and Greyson’s manager! (Congrats Mr. Carter!)

We understand this event was pretty high class (check out Greyson’s slick black suite) and tickets ranged from $300 – $1000 to attend the four hour long dinner.

Troy Carter Talks about Greyson Chance with Billboard

Greyson Chance was a topic of discussion in a recent Billboard interview when his manager, Troy Carter sat down with Bill Werde during the 7th annual Touring Conference and Awards.  Thanks goes out to community member Garret for sending us a link to the video!

Troy Carter became widely known managing pop-star Lady Gaga but he’s beginning to show his talents in his work with Greyson Chance as well who is is also now managing.

Between Lady Gaga and Greyson, Troy tells us that he stays “very busy!”.

The interview starts off with Troy talking about the comparisons that have been made between Justin Bieber and Greyson Chance.  Troy acknowledges that molding Greyson into what Justin has become would be the easy route, but he’s thinking long-term with the thirteen year old singer.   “His musical instincts are way out whack {for someone his age}” Troy commented.

It was very reassuring when Troy said that his goal with Greyson is to make sure he has a career that will last beyond his childhood.  Troy hopes that the longevity of Greyson’s music career matches that of singers like Stevie Wonder who walked into Motown at seven-years-old.

Managing Lady Gaga and Greyson at the same time is of course challenging but Troy says that the team standing behind both artists (which consists of in-house marketing personnel, a touring department and a digital marketing department) all come together to make things happen.  While Troy acknowledges that Lady Gaga does require much more personnel to manage her than Greyson does, Mr. Carter believes Greyson will one day require the same.

For the remainder of the interview Troy and Bill discuss Lady Gaga, her unique style, how things got started with her and offer some insight into the workings of things behind the scene in the music business.  This interview was one of the best that we’ve seen with anyone in the music indusutry and it gave us some awesome insight into the mindset of the man responsible for Greyson’s music career.

Below is a video of the complete interview.

Greyson Chance Talks about Ellen DeGeneres

Greyson Chance is featured in another video just released by ClevverTV where the thirteen-year-old singing sensation talks to Dana Ward and Joslyn Davis about how he got involved with Ellen DeGeneres and what the experience was like.  This interview is the third installment of a series ClevverTV has released from Greyson’s August 15th visit to their studios.

The interview gets underway with Joslyn asking Greyson about how Ellen DeGeneres found his Paparazzi performance video on YouTube and how she went about contacting him to appear on her talk show.  Interestingly enough Greyson tell us that he was the last of his entire family to find out that Ellen was interested in having him on her show.  It was just an ordinary day at school for Greyson when he got a text message from his mother, Lisa.  Sitting in class Greyson read the text message before excusing himself to call his mom.  It was at this time Greyson found out that The Ellen Show producers called.

While Greyson was super excited, both he and his mother didn’t think they’d be flying out to Los Angeles where the show is taped for a few weeks.  To Greyson’s surprise the producers called back and told him that they were going to fly his family out that night.  With his bags packed, Greyson headed to L.A. for the first time and off to The Ellen Show he went.

Prior to hitting The Ellen Show stage Greyson met Ellen for the first time backstage while his father Scott was busy fielding phone calls from people who were wanting to meet his son.  Greyson said that his dad received one phone call which worried them a bit from a gentleman from Lady Gaga’s office.  Apparently the initial thought was that there was a copyright issue with Greyson singing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” song.

To the relief of the Chance family, the representative from Gaga’s office wanted to link Greyson up with two of the music industry’s top managers, Troy Carter (Madonna’s manager) and Guy Oseary (Lady Gaga’s manager).  Ten minutes before going live Greyson talked to his new managers and learned that he would be making his first record under the Interscope label.

Dana then asked Greyson about his performance on Ellen and if he was nervous.  Greyson tells us that he was having “so much fun” and really didn’t think about how many people were watching and focused on the studio audience at the taping of the show.

Greyson then talked about his relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.  Since his first appearance on her show the two have developed a special bond and according to Greyson, Ellen has become one of his good friends and mentors.  The dynamic duo even exchange e-mails on a daily basis.  Through it all Greyson was very appreciative and recalls that one of his favorite memories from the show was his surprise phone call from his idol, Lady Gaga.

Finishing up, Greyson explains to us that the best part of everything that has happened so far is the actual process of going into the recording studio and making music.  While the process isn’t what he expected, Greyson believes he is on the right track now and is excited for what is yet to come.
